Meningitis B vaccine

What is meningococcus B : is a killer bug that can strike otherwise healthy persons without warning and can progress quickly and be fatal. It causes meningitis and sepsis most often in babies. It is one of the commonest causes of life threatening infections in children . In Cyprus there are 5 -10 cases reported per year.

This vaccine was licensed in 2015 and quickly became part of the national immunization schedule in many European countries. In Cyprus although it is strongly recommended by the Cyprus Paediatric society , it is not yet part of the national immunization scheme ( mostly related to the vaccine cost ). It is recommended for babies in a total of 3 doses.

Despite the out of pocket payment for the vaccine , considering that it protects your child from a potentially fatal disease , we strongly recommend that you immunize your child against Meningitis B.
